Driving in France
In 2008 a new law was introduced requiring that drivers have a yellow reflective vest to be kept inside the car, also a triangle in case of emergency stops/breakdowns/accidents, the driver has to get out of the car wearing the vest and place the triangle behind the car.
If hiring a car in France please check with your car hire company that a vest and triangle have been provided.
Drivers can be stopped by the gendarmes/police and if the items are not present in the vehicle, there is a set fine of 135 Euros which includes both vest and triangle, no half fine for having a triangle and no vest or double fine for not having both.
